Where IDE Tools (CodeRush and/or Refactor!) settings are stored

August 16th, 2010

IDE Tools settings are stored in a folder beneath your windows profile. The folder contains all currently used settings, log files and DXCore cache files. Factory default settings are stored inside your IDE Tools installation folder.

One of the ways to locate this folder is to visit the “About” dialog in the DevExpress menu, right-click the orange area and select the corresponding menu item:

This will open the settings (“Settings.xml“) folder which you are able to backup or completely remove (or rename), to restore factory default settings. If this folder is removed IDE tools will rebuild all settings from the installation folder when they are accessed.

An alternative way to open the settings folder is to type ‘%AppData%\CodeRush for VS .NET\1.1\Settings.xml’ inside Windows Explorer and hit Enter.

The default path for your settings and log files can be easily changed on the “Core\Settings” options page in the Options Dialog:

This setting is stored inside windows registry at the “HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Developer Express\CodeRush for VS\UserStorageFolder” key for every user. Once you change it and apply, the Options Dialog will ask for settings migration:

You can copy, move or leave them in the old settings folder. If you leave them in the old folder, defaults settings will be used instead, and old settings will be backed up inside the old folder.

    Hey Alex,
Is there a new location for the “Settings…” button now that the about box has been Metroized, or is accessing via paths my only option? Thanks.

Hi Robert, right-click the orange area to open the context menu. There you will find the Settings… button.
